BETTY CAMPBELL EDENFIELD, 89

LAKELAND – Betty Campbell Edenfield, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 12, 2018, due to natural causes. Born in 1929, in Columbus, Mississippi, Betty attended high school in Washington D.C. while her parents worked in the Pentagon. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Journalism. While at the University she met her sweetheart and future husband, Raymond G. Edenfield, whom she married in 1949.

Betty was a devoted wife and mother, raising four children. After her children entered school, she became certified in Education and taught 9th grade Civics at Southwest Jr. High for many years. Betty earned her Master’s degree from the University of South Florida as a Reading Specialist. In later years she taught English and Reading as an adjunct professor at Polk Community College. Additionally, Betty assisted her husband in his real estate business for many years.

Betty had a passion for reading and lifelong learning. She loved to read and her favorite place to visit was the library. She enjoyed cooking, canning vegetables from the garden, and making sweet ambrosia with fruit from their citrus grove.

Betty was a devoted Christian. She and her family were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland. Betty and Ray celebrated their 65th anniversary before Ray went to be with the Lord in 2014. She was loving, supportive, and encouraging to those around her, especially her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Cordelia Campbell, and husband Raymond Guyce Edenfield. She is survived by her four children, Raymond Glenn Edenfield (Debbie Hill), Janis Edenfield Wilson (Richard), Dale Edenfield Bosworth (Craig), and Marc Wilkes Edenfield; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Sarah, and Christina Bosworth, Brooke Edenfield Almiron, David and Doug Hill, and Ricky and Katie Wilson; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 16, 2018, at 1:00 PM, at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 South Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, Florida. A service of remembrance will follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.

Arrangements are being handled through Heath Funeral Chapel.
