Pauline Walna Mann Brennan - obituary
Pauline Mann Brennan, 85, died on October 17, 2018 from heart failure.
Pauline was born June 4, 1933 in Madison, Florida on the family farm. Her parents were the late Tappin Coffee “TC” Mann and Annie Laurie Williams Mann Walker.
Pauline grew up in Madison, Tallahassee, Bartow and finally moved to Lakeland in 1942. Her family has lived in Polk County since 1867. She was always proud of her Polk County heritage. She graduated from Lakeland High School in 1951 where she supported her beloved Dreadnaughts as head majorette. She graduated from Wesleyan College in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Foreign Languages. At one time Pauline could speak or read seven languages. Pauline loved every aspect of her years at Wesleyan and was a member of the Golden Hearts.
After graduation, Pauline moved to Washington DC where she worked for the National Security Agency “NSA”. Her time in DC was filled with excitement and good times. Pauline loved living in our Nation’s Capital. After a few years she married Vaughn C Brennan, and they eventually had three children.
After DC, Pauline lived in Atlanta, Ga; Dalton, Ga; and Greenville, SC before returning home to Lakeland. Once home Pauline taught school at Lake Morton Elementary, Dixieland Elementary and Lakeland High School (where she taught English, French and Drama.) She loved her students and they her. She was tough but fair. Following her teaching years Pauline worked as a para legal; and along with her partner, Pat Campbell, she co-owned Balloons Over Lakeland.
During and after her marriage, Pauline supported the community as an active volunteer in several different organizations. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Lakeland where she especially enjoyed participating in Children’s Theatre and working the Junior Welfare Bargain Box and Thrift Sale. She participated in the Needlework Guild, Garden Club and the Learning Resource Center. Her love of genealogy led her to research her family roots and then join the DAR (past Regent); Colonial Dames (past president); UDC and Dames of the Magna Charta. Pauline was a member of the Nostalgia Antique Club (past president) and PEO Sisterhood Chapter AW (past secretary.) She was a lifelong Methodist, first as a member of College Heights Methodist, and then First United Methodist.
Pauline was filled with spice and good character. Proper etiquette and social niceties were instilled upon her children. She had impeccable grammar and continued to correct her children throughout their adult lives. She enjoyed reading, traveling through the US and to many foreign countries; playing bridge; being at the beach or the NC mountains; doing cross word puzzles and spending time with her beloved family and friends.
She is predeceased by her brother Tappin Coffee Mann Walker; her parents; and her step father Weldon Sheffield Walker. She is survived by her sister Ellen Walker Sutton (Brad) of Ogden, Ut; sister-in-law Sandra G Walker of Lakeland, FL; her children: Annie-Laurie Brennan Wynn (Bill) of Lakeland, Fl; Weldon Earl Brennan “Web” of Tampa, FL; Katherine Walna Brennan Riner “Katie” (Jeff) of Gainesville, Fl; grandchildren: William B. “Will” Wynn Jr (fiancé Haley); Logan Joseph Baio Brennan; Rachel Katherine Mann Wynn Earls (Harold IV); Fallon Mann Brennan; Julia Anne Wynn Myers (Keith) and Savannah Victoria Deitch; great grandson: Harold Lloyd Earls V “Leo” and one on the way; as well as her nieces, nephews and many cousins. The family will be forever appreciative of the loving care provided by her care giver Estela Dimas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Wesleyan College (Macon, GA); Florida United Methodist Children’s Home (Tampa, FL) or a charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 23rd from 5 to 7 PM in The Tribute Center at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 S. Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801 with a Celebration of Life Service at First United Methodist on Wednesday, October 24th at 11 AM.
