Anton J Harterink

Anton (Tony) J. Harterink, 78, passed away Friday, October 16, 2015. He was born in Indonesia, and as a young child he spent three-and-a- half years in a Japanese concentration camp during WWII. He returned to Holland, his homeland, where he spent his school years and played professional soccer. He was an avid soccer fan. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1957, joined the Marine Corps, became a citizen and later joined the Army Reserve. He loved this country and enjoyed being with people. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Loree (Drew) Sanders, Valrico, FL; son, Shane (Nicole) Harterink, Winston-Salem, NC; and four grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Heath Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 22, 2015, from 6:00 " 8:00 pm. He will be placed at Florida National Cemetery at a later date.
