Catherine Susco departed this life peacefully on May 2, 2015 surrounded by beloved family members. Catherine was born November 15, 1928 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Rozella and Robert Schaefer. She grew up in Dayton, Ohio with her mother, her stepfather, Herbert Gompf, and four half-brothers, Jim, Ted, George, and Tom. She married Milton Susco (Dec 1952), they had four children, Joe, Kathleen, John, and Marianne. In 1970, after Catherine and Milt had divorced, she moved to Cutler Ridge, Florida in a Volkswagen bug with her four kids and two cats in order to live near her brother, Tom, and his family. Many happy hours were spent in and around Uncle Tom""s house on the lake with Tom, his wife, Joyce (deceased), and their children, Tim and Tracey. Catherine had a number of interests, but most of all, she loved children, gardening, and cats. She worked as a Pre-K teacher at the Good Shepherd Child Care Center and the on-site child center of the American Bankers/Assurant insurance group. In total she dedicated over 40 years in early child care education. She was much more than a day care worker""she believed in giving preschoolers a head start on their education. Known as Ms. Kay to the kids under her care, she engaged them in activities involving reading, music and nature appreciation. Her love of cats was well known, so much so that she was affectionately called ""Mama Cat"" by her grandkids. Her yard was the one in the neighborhood where stray cats or unwanted kittens were often left because word got around that she would either take them in or see that they got good homes. Catherine is survived by brothers George Gompf (Peg) and Tom Gompf(Fran), sons Joe Susco and John Susco (Ann), daughters Kathleen Susco (and her partner, Cathy) and Marianne McMillin (Greg) and grandson Thomas McMillin and granddaughter Kimberlee McMillin, nephew Tim Gompf (Sandy), niece Tracey Russell (Mark).
