Rodolfo ‘Rudy’ Garcia Miro, MD, 85 Lakeland - Rodolfo Garcia Miro passed away June 4, 2018. Rodolfo Garcia Miro was born December 15, 1932, in Havana, Cuba to Armando Garcia Comesana and Graciela Miro. He graduated from University of Havana Medical School in 1960. Involved in the revolution against the Castro regime, he was forced to flee the country with his wife, Maria Luisa, in 1961 to escape persecution. In 1962, he did his internship with St. Joseph Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and later his Residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Gastroenterology with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dayton, OH. Rudy was the Chief of Gastroenterology at the VA Hospital in Baltimore, MD, and the Medical Director of Central State Hospital in Petersburg, VA. He moved to Lakeland in 1970 where he practiced medicine for 43 years. He was a great athlete, excelling in basketball and baseball in his youth and later loving racquetball and tennis. He was a writer, a poet, a teacher, a lover of history, an avid traveler, and known for making beautiful Christmas ornaments. He had a quick wit, a huge heart and most of all he loved being with his family and friends Rudy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maria Luisa Miro, children Lourdes Miro, Rudy Miro (Carmen), Francis Miro, and grandchildren Alex Javier Miro and Remy Bird Miro. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Armando and Sergio. A rosary will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 210 W. Lemon Street, Lakeland, on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 12:30 p.m, followed by a mass at 1:00 p.m.
