Naomi Norris Stuart

Naomi Norris Stuart, 90 Department of HRS Lakeland, Naomi Norris Stuart, age 90, died September 2, 2014 at Highlands Lake Center due to natural causes. Nomie, as she was known to family and friends, was born July 12, 1924 in Piedmont, South Carolina. She was valedictorian of her class at Duncan High School, and then attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina where she graduated with a bachelor""s degree in August, 1944. After college, Nomie went to Washington, D.C. and worked on top secret projects for the U.S. Signal Corps as a crypto-analyst until 1945. From 1945 " 1949 she worked in the office of the Honorable J.R. Bryson, Congressman from South Carolina. Nomie returned to South Carolina in 1949 and worked for the law firm of Williams & Henry in Greenville until she married Charles K. Stuart on September 2, 1949. She and her family moved to Florida in 1964. After many years as a mother and housewife she returned to the work force and was employed by the State of Florida, Department of HRS, in child support enforcement and food stamp programs from 1975 until she retired in 1987. Always active in churches, she was member of First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland. Nomie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles K. Stuart, and brother, George F. Norris, Jr. She is survived by her son C. Kenneth Stuart, Jr. and wife Jan of Angel Fire, NM, daughter Sandra Stuart, Lakeland, Florida, sister, Nancy Norris Scott of West Columbia, S.C. and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, September 4th, from 6:00 " 8:00 PM at Heath Funeral Chapel, Lakeland, Florida. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, September 5th at First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, Florida.
