Timothy Bryan Coker

November 4, 1967 — January 27, 2021

Timothy Bryan Coker passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the age of 53. He was a loving husband and a devoted father who was cherished by his family and friends. Tim was a lifelong Lakeland resident, born on November 4, 1967 to Pearline Coker Homrich and Richard Wayne Coker. He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1985. He attended the University of Florida which led to him being a lifelong devoted fan of the Gators. He served five years in the United States Coast Guard and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, and other commendations. During his service, he received extensive training on the installation, operation, and maintenance of electronic warfare systems and computers. He was stationed in Attu Island, Alaska; Baltimore, Maryland; Chicago, Illinois; Hampton Rhodes, Virginia; and Yorktown, Virginia. While stationed in Yorktown, he met Tammy Lynn Thomas. They fell in love and moved to Lakeland, Florida, where they married in 1989 and raised their family. Drawing on his accomplishments and experience in the Coast Guard, Tim transitioned into his civilian career in Information Technology Security. His twenty-five-year career included Bay Data Consultants, Vertical IT Solutions, and All Covered, where he was National Manager of Security Services. Tim had extensive certifications and was valued by his clients and colleagues for his expertise in network and systems administration, cyber security, and digital forensics. Tim poured his heart and passion into his family—especially his two children Jason and Lauren. He took every opportunity to support and encourage all of their interests and activities. Tim had many hobbies. He was especially passionate about building and flying remote controlled model air planes. He holds the Guinness World Record for the most remote-controlled aircraft in the air at one time. While at home, he built and cultivated salt water aquariums with his son; enjoyed playing games of all types; and reading a variety of different genres. Tim loved the outdoors including nature walks, hiking, and birdwatching. More recently, he traded his interest in racquetball for a new hobby, pickle ball, which he played with family and friends. He was also a member at Scott Lake Baptist Church. Tim loved to travel and cherished trips to Jamaica, ski trips, stay-cations, and cruises with his wife and children. For fifteen years, the entire Coker clan enjoyed bi-annual trips to various Florida beaches where he enjoyed fishing, boogie boarding, long walks on the beach, and building sand castles. In 2018, he and Tammy joined a group of dear friends for a fantastic tour of Italy. This trip complemented his interest in history with visits to Pompeii, Cinque Terre, Tuscany, and Rome. In addition to these adventures, Tim enjoyed sitting on his porch, playing with his dogs, and relaxing at his firepit with friends. Together, Tim and Tammy created their dream home for enjoying every second with each other and their loved ones. Words cannot adequately capture Tim’s love for family and his passion for his many and varied interests. Tim is survived by his wife, Tammy, son Jason, daughter Lauren, her boyfriend Hayden Kestle, mother Pearline, brothers Mike and Anthony, sisters-in-law Diane and Susan, niece Kristen, and nephews Brian, Carson, and Watson. He is predeceased by his father, Richard. Visitation will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Scott Lake Baptist Church in Lakeland, Florida; with a celebration of life following at 6:00 pm (masks required). There is the option to view the service online at https://scottlake.org/ (Live-only, not recorded). Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Tim’s influence on the many lives he touched will be greatly missed.
