Alfred “Al” Eugene Pfund passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at the age of 91 surrounded by family and friends. Born on May 21, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the only child of Lydia and Erwin Pfund. Al lived in Lakeland, Florida for 44 years by way of Morrisville, Pennsylvania. Al lived a full life devoted to his family, his faith, and his community.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 68 years, Lucille Pfund; his beloved daughter, Lisa Pfund Postell and her husband, John; and his three cherished granddaughters, Carolyn, Brooke, and Bridget Postell. Al’s family and friends will forever remember his kindness, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor.
Al earned a degree in civil engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and began his career in the engineering field at U.S. Steel. He was the Project Manager of the Southeast Division of Real Estate Development, and in particular Seven Springs. After many successful years, he transitioned into commercial real estate where he built a respected career as a broker before retiring.
Al’s life was marked by service. As a Rotarian, he was a proud and active member of the Lakeland Sunrise Rotary Club for 40 years, enjoying the friendships, furthering his profession, and participating in the many community activities, like Paint Your Heart Out Lakeland, the Turkey Shoot, and the Kentucky Derby Fundraiser. He even spoke highly of being a Rotarian in his final days mentioning how grateful he was to have had the opportunity to be a member. Al was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a dedicated member of the Board of Catholic Charities. A devout parishioner of Resurrection Catholic Church, he also honorably served his country in the Army Reserves. His deep commitment to faith, service, and community left a lasting legacy of compassion, integrity, and love.
Al was always very supportive of his wife, Lucille and her work in the art world. Whether it was building the parade float at Santa Fe, attending prom at Disney, going to conferences in Orlando, or driving her to school, he was always by her side with his gentle smile and helping hand.
Al loved sports and had a competitive spirit. He was a member of a softball league when he was younger, as well as tennis, golf, and fishing. His prize 121-pound tarpon still hangs on the wall by the pool. He loved playing Pinochle and taught all 3 of his granddaughters how to play.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Terrace Way, Lakeland, FL 33813, followed by a Funeral Mass from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A reception will immediately follow at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 1820 County Road 540 A, Lakeland, Florida 33813.
Al will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
