Anna Mae James

April 16, 1933 — April 3, 2026

“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue… Her children arise and call her blessed… Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all… A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” — Proverbs 31:26–31

Mrs. Anna Mae James, 92, entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 3, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with dementia.

Anna Mae was born on April 16, 1933, in Lake Worth, Florida, and was later lovingly adopted by John and Mary Miller. She grew up with strong values of faith, family, and dedication that would define her life.

She met her high school sweetheart, Frank Lovett James, and the two were married on August 7, 1953, at First Baptist Church of Lake Worth, Florida. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and commitment.

Following Frank’s graduation from Clemson University in 1954 and his early career in Miami, Florida, the couple welcomed their first child, Frank Lovett James Jr., on October 27, 1954. During Frank’s service as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, the family lived in Columbus, Georgia, where their daughter, Susan Anne James, was born on December 20, 1956. After his honorable discharge, the family eventually settled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where their youngest son, Gary Donald James, was born on February 15, 1960.

Anna Mae devoted her life to her family as a loving wife and mother. She took great pride in raising her children in a Christian home and was actively involved in their education through the PTA and other school organizations.

A woman of many talents, Anna Mae was an accomplished seamstress, creating clothing, curtains, and decorative pieces for her home. She also used her gifts in service to her faith, crafting Christian banners for Anastasia Baptist Church and Crescent Beach Baptist Church.

Her passion for fellowship led her to host a knitting ministry in her home, welcoming women from the community. This cherished group later became affectionately known as the “Knit-Witts.”

In addition to her creative pursuits, Anna Mae was a trained tennis player who competed for more than 25 years. She also shared in her husband’s passion for offshore tournament sport fishing, enthusiastically supporting him and the anglers aboard their boats—each bearing a variation of her name, “Li’l Annie.”

Anna Mae is survived by her beloved husband; her two sons and daughter; her son-in-law and daughters-in-law; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will be cherished by all who knew her.
