Caroline Lewis Curran, born in Wilmington, Delaware on December 20, 1928, passed away on March 2, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by her family.
Caroline is survived by her daughter, Catherine Curran Livingston (Steven) of Silver Spring, Maryland; two grandsons, Christopher S. Livingston (Michelle) of New Market, Maryland, and N. Lee Curran (Paige) of Lakeland; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews in Florida, Colorado, and New England; and her former daughter-in-law, Teresa Curran of Lakeland, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Norman F. Curran, Sr.; her son, Norman F. Curran, Jr.; her infant daughter, Mary Caroline; her parents, J. Arthur and Jane Lewis; and her sister and brother, Jane L. Marable (Oscar) and J. Art Lewis, Jr. (Virginia).
Caroline graduated in 1952 from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., with a Master’s degree in social work. In 1991, she received the university’s Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. It was at Catholic University that she met her husband, Norman, when they were both members of the sailing club.
As a social worker, Caroline opened the Catholic Charities office in Lakeland in the mid-1960s and was active in many social service initiatives throughout the community. She worked with United Way and others to provide services to those in need.
She was an active member of Resurrection Catholic Church since the mid-1960s, including membership in the RCCW (Resurrection Council of Catholic Women). She was also a member of EWC2 (Engineers Wives Club and Engineer Women’s Club) of Polk County.
In retirement, Caroline and Norman enjoyed traveling by motor home throughout the United States and Canada. She will be remembered as an avid card player and was still playing cards two nights a week. Caroline and Norman also enjoyed square dancing and spending time with their wide circle of friends and family. She especially loved hosting family holiday parties—most of all Christmas.
