Frederick Paul Bogel, Jr. of Lakeland, FL passed away on February 11, 2023, at Lakeland Regional Health Center. Fred, also known as Butch, was 76 years old. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Amelia Emeline Crowe and Frederick Paul Bogel.
His father was career Army so Fred lived in many states including Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Colorado, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. He also lived in Stuttgart, Germany. Fred attended Forest Park High School in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia where he was an accomplished athlete in baseball and football. He was in the Air Force from 1964-1968 where he was trained as a surgical first assistant. He moved with his family to Lakeland, Florida, accepting an offer of employment at Clark and Daughtry Medical Group from Dr. Jim Melton, an orthopedic surgeon that was in the military with Fred. He attended Polk Community College and Florida Southern College and began working as a Registered Nurse at C & D medical group for 18 years, followed by 23 years with Watson Clinic as a CRNFA, Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant for a total of 41 years all in the operating room at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. His career lasted 45 years including the military before retiring in 2009. He enjoyed all kinds of movies along with music and dancing. Most people that knew Fred have seen him dancing. He loved many outdoor activities of boating, skiing, fishing, and softball. A favorite activity over the years has been going to Fat Jack's for socializing with the many friends he made there.
Fred is predeceased by his parents, his sister Sharon, his brothers Don, Dennis, and Harry Lon.
Fred is survived by his loving wife he called the love of his life, Susan, of 44+ years and his three children, Frederick "Paul" Bogel, III (Hope), Kristine Burnett (Jay), and Robyn Benton (Danny), He is survived by his 4 sisters, Debra Huffines (Bruce), Denise Rogers (Mike), Diane Emerson (Duane), and Susan Davies (Clyde). Fred is survived by 10 grandchildren, Charlotte Bogel, Ellis Bogel, Amanda Fawcett (James), Alicia Barrett, Nathan Benton (Rose), Seth Benton, Brittany Gomes (Sammy), Charles Burnett (Victorya), Brook Burnett, and Jay Burnett, Jr. (Rachel). Also surviving him are his in-laws of Charles Reynolds (Janet) and Cindy Frielich (Sean).
Fred is survived by 19 nieces and nephews, Adam Wade, Zachary Frielich, Kayli Frielich, Jake Frielich, Alison Reynolds, Emily Reynolds, Kim Rudd (Duane), Susan Jones, Esther Colbert (Jason), Josh Rogers (Adrienne), Tim Rogers (Diana), Jon Rogers (Annie), Matt Rogers, Rachel Roberts (Lewis), Michele Hawkins (Travis), Billy Amerson (Stephanie), Bonnie Davies, Katie Davies, and CT Davies. He is also survived by 21 great grandchildren.
A special thanks to Baycare Home Health nurses and therapists, especially Mike, Dena, and Andy. A thank you to his caregivers Faith, Dennis, and Dawn.
A service will be held at Heath Funeral Chapel Saturday February 18, 2023, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. Visitation begins at 10:00 am.
