Herbert Todd

Herbert Ridgely Todd Herbert Ridgely Todd of Lakeland, Florida, died on February 21, 2016. Todd was born in 1923, in Avon Park, Florida, to Mr. Edward Gorsuch Todd and Winifred Reck Todd. He was their second of four sons. He graduated from the Bolles School of Jacksonville and attended University of Cincinnati, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He served as First Lieutenant in World War II primarily in Saipan and Guam. After returning from the war, he continued his education at the University of Florida. Todd married Betty Touchton in September of 1947, and fathered four lovely girls. His business interests included citrus, cattle, and drug stores. He moved to Lakeland in 1961, expanding his business interest to include property management, property development, and radio. He also dedicated his talents to his community by serving on the Board of the Lakeland Regional Medical Center, the Give Well Community Foundation, and the Polk Education Foundation. He was Vice President of the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce, co-chairman of the Polk County Efficiency Committee, co-chairman of the Polk Museum of Art Construction Committee, and Commodore of the Lakeland Yacht Club. He received the George Jenkins Community Service Award. He was an Eagle Scout. Todd was co-owner of the Todd-McKay office building, co-owner of Lakeland Broadcasting, and an elder of First Presbyterian Church. After the death of his wife of 45, years, he traveled extensively with his grandchildren to Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Central America. In April of 1999, he married Paula Massey and spent 17 happy years in Lakeland and Saluda, NC. Todd is survived by Becky Blue (Bill), Nancy Todd, Sally Wilfong (Winston), Judy Crosby (Bill), stepchildren Morris Massey, Marsha Massey Padgett (Doug), George Massey (Deana), his brother Norman Todd, and 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 South Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL, 33801. Service will be held in the sanctuary, Friday, February 26, 2016 at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, FL, 33801.
