James D. "Jim" D. Anderson, Sr.

January 24, 1927 — December 6, 2022

James D. Anderson, “Jim”, of Lakeland, passed away on December 6, 2022, at the age of 95.


He was born on January 24, 1927, in Lakeland, son of the late Earl and Leah Anderson. He is preceded in death by son, Dr. James D. Anderson Jr.


Jim is survived by his wife, Joan Anderson, whom he married on September 2, 1946, in Lakeland. Also survived by children, Linda Anderson, Beacon, N.Y.; David Anderson (Mary Lib) Lakeland; and Tom Anderson (Lisa), Fernandina Beach; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Anderson, Lakeland.

He graduated from Lakeland High School and Florida Southern College.


Jim served in the USCG Merchant Mariners from1945-1946. His career was in accounting and auditing. He was also in the citrus and cattle business.


He was very involved in church his entire life. At First Presbyterian Church he served as a Deacon, Elder, and usher. He was active in the choir and played the violin.


Jim was a charter member and past President of the Sertoma Club. He also served on the Boy Scout Council and was a leader of the Explorer Troop. His hobbies included reading and cooking.


A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022; at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
