James Otho Elliott age 92 of Clear Spring, MD and a resident of Lakeland, FL, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the James A. Haley VA Hospital, in Tampa, FL.
Born August 13, 1930, in Franklin County, PA, he was the son of the late David Hamby and Pearl C. Wolff Elliott. He was raised and preceded in death by his foster mother, Lillian Pittenger.
Jim was a member of the First Christian Church of Hagerstown, MD, and Bethany Christian Church Disciples of Christ, in Lakeland, FL. He was previously employed with Western Electric and General Motors Co. of Martinsburg, WV, but his main line of work was plumbing.
He was a member of the U.S. Navy having served in Korea. He was a member of the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring, MD, and a life member of the Martinsburg VFW Post 896. Jim belonged to the Civitan Club of Martinsburg, the AARP, the USS Tarawa Assoc. CWA Union, and the UAW Union.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Shirley M. (Burger) Elliott, two daughters: Cynthia L. Doub and husband Dennis of Hagerstown, MD, Kathy S. Fales and husband Scott of Mt. Airy, NC, one stepson: Darren J Smith and wife Beth of Clear Spring, MD, two stepdaughters: Jennifer Archer and husband Rich of Raleigh, NC, Robin Donaldson of Clear Spring, MD, one sister: Hester Mullencamp of Falling Waters, WV, 11 grandchildren: Daniel, AJ, Kimi, Andrew, Chloe, Alex, Sophia, Isabelle, Nicholas, Kassandra, and Patrick, 7 great-grandchildren: Zachary, Jacob, Katherine, Charlotte, Kailynn, Lucas, and Kylan, numerous half sisters and brothers and his loving companion dog Precious.
He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters: Gertrude Eaton and Dorothy Kelly, a foster sister: Josephine Firey, and a sister-in-law: Carolyn Elliott, 4 brothers: Marvin, Russell, and Paul, and Charles Elliott.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 10-11:00 am at Heath Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am, at the funeral home, 328 S. Ingraham Ave., Lakeland, FL 33801.
A visitation and service will follow in MD at a later date. Burial will be in the Little Rose Hill Cemetery of Clear Spring, MD with military honors.
