Janice Marie Mitchell

Janice Marie Mitchell, 83, Lakeland, passed away on June 13, 2023. She was born on December 15, 1939, in Gainesville Hospital, the daughter of Jack and Elizabeth Alford. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Jack and Ray Alford.

She is survived by husband, Bill Mitchell, sons, Brian and Jon Mitchell, and brothers, Wayne and Glenn Alford.

Janice moved to Lakeland in 1945 and attended Lakeland High School.

She married her husband Bill Mitchell on Friday, the 13th of June 1958.

She was a Navy wife and lived in Pensacola, FL; San Diego, CA; Memphis, TN; and moved back to Lakeland in 1979.

She loved music and became the church pianist at the age of 9 at the Myrtle St. Methodist Church in Lakeland. She stayed active in the Methodist Church her whole life. She served as a pianist, church secretary, trustee, board member, teacher, youth counselor, and worked at the United Methodist Conference Office, helping candidates on their journey to the ministry.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
