Jeanne Moore Young

Jeanne Moore Young died September 16, 2026, at her home in Lakeland, FL, from complications of multiple sclerosis. Jeanne was born December 13, 1940, in Warren PA, to Clyde E. and Helen, nee Stitt, Moore. She was married to James (Jim) E. Young on August 25, 1962.

Jeanne was known for her warm spirit, easy smile, and contagious laughter. She the ability to make people feel special when she spoke to them.

Jeanne was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Wooster, Ohio, when she was about eight years old. Jim became enamored with Jeanne in middle school when she accompanied the band with her piano playing during class one day. They became high school sweethearts and married after college in the summer of 1962.

Their children, Jill and Jeffrey, were born in Ohio. After the Blizzard of 1979, Jeanne and Jim moved their family to Lakeland, Florida. Many family memories were made from Saturday excursions around Ohio and Florida along with an annual summer trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Her love for the sun, whether by the pool or on the beach, probably began when she worked as a lifeguard at the city pool in Wooster.

When she was young, she played school and played at teaching. This fondness for teaching and of children led to her career as a school speech and language pathologist. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Ohio State University.

She was naturally a great teacher and loved helping all children. This was especially evident in supporting charitable organizations such as Oasis Academy of Lakeland.

Jeanne was also a wonderful story-teller. At the family dinner table, she delighted everyone with tales of the cute, funny things the children did. As grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, her collection of stories only grew, and she loved sharing them with friends. She also passed on stories of her childhood to her children and grandchildren — stories that none of them will ever be able to tell quite the way she did.

Jeanne was a member and attended First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland with Jim for 46 years.

She and Jim created memories by enjoying travel across the United States, and visiting Israel, Egypt, England and Scotland.

Jeanne’s love for family and generosity were evident at Christmastime, when she would spoil her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone loved their gifts, as she had the ability to find just the right gift for each person.

Jeanne’s courage was most evident in her struggle with multiple sclerosis and, through it, she inspired all those around her to face life head-on. She never let it define her or hold her back from the things she loved.

She adored her family, both immediate and extended and filled her life with things that brought her joy — flowers, teaching, decorating her home, reading and spending time with friends and family.

Through it all, her spirit never wavered. Her positive attitude and determination left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Richard Moses.

Jeanne is survived by her beloved husband, Jim, of Lakeland, FL; older sister, Nancy Sellers, née Moses, of White Rock, SC; sister-in-law, Donna Patricia Young of Amherst, OH; daughter, Jill Hadlock, née Young, married to son-in-law Jim, of Orlando, FL; son, Dr. Jeffrey Young married to daughter-in-law, Vicki Young, née Conely, of Orlando, FL; nephews Craig Young married to Roberta, of Avon, OH, and Christian Young married to Jessica of Wakeman, OH; nieces Kelley Young of North Canton, OH, and Robin Syfert, née Moses, married to Tom, of Irmo, SC; grandchildren, FaLena, of Seffner, FL; Erica Sanchez, née Young, married to Carlos Sanchez of Orlando, FL, Caleb Young and Hannah Hadlock; great-grandchildren, MaKayla, Stetson, Sarah, and Samantha; great-nieces, Amelia Tweito, née Syfert and Paytyn Young; great-nephews, Luke Syfert and Hunter Young.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service is scheduled Saturday, September 26, at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Lakeland.
