Joseph Alan Moon, born January 2, 1949, in Peru, Indiana, was the beloved son of Milford S. and Virginia Marie Moon. He grew up alongside his sisters, Nancy Clark (deceased) and Cathy D’Amato, and spent his early childhood in Indiana before the family moved to Florida when he was ten, following his father’s work with the Railroad. The Moons lived in Ocala, Alachua, and Lake Wales, Fl, where Joe attended local schools and graduated from Lake Wales High School in 1967.
During high school, Joe discovered what would become his lifelong profession—working as a dental technician. He dedicated 44 years to the craft in Polk County dental labs, earning the respect of colleagues and clients through his skill, reliability, and steady work ethic.
Joe was the proud father of four children: Shannon Scott (Robert) of Lexington, KY; Matt Moon (Paula); Brian Moon (Jennifer) of Winter Haven, FL; and stepdaughter Marybeth Hammond (Heather) of Ocala, FL. His greatest joy was being a grandpa to his seven grandchildren: Brianna and Ethan Scott, Izzy and Fletcher Moon, Hunter Moon, and Lennox and Zayne Hammond. Each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and happiness.
On November 18, 1989, Joe married Paticia Polk Hammond, and together they made a loving home in Lakeland, where they have lived for 36 years. Their life together was filled with faith, and family, and service.
A devoted member of Lake Gibson Methodist Church, Joe served the Lord wholeheartedly. He was active in many areas of church life: Lay Leader, choir member, Methodist Men supporter, committee member, men’s prayer group leader, and longtime usher. One of his greatest joys was attending the annual Men’s Retreat in Leesburg, where he found fellowship, renewal, and spiritual connection.
Joe cherished every moment spent with family. He was a gentle, loving man whose kindness, faith, and steady presence touched everyone who knew him. He lived with a servant’s heart and leaves behind a legacy of devotion to God and family.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Gibson Methodist Church located at 424 W Daughtery Rd, Lakeland, FL 33809.
