Kevin Frederick Browne

June 24, 1952 — December 22, 2025

Lakeland

Dr. Kevin F. Browne, Jr., passed away quietly at home on Monday, December 22 from leukemia. He was 73 years old.

Kevin was born on June 24, 1952, in New York City to Kevin and Nora Browne Sr. and raised in New Jersey. Education and learning were always priorities for him, carrying him through twelve years of Catholic school and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Rutgers University. He continued at Rutgers for medical school and completed his Cardiology fellowship at Indiana University. He went on to achieve board certification in four medical specialties.

Kevin practiced interventional cardiology and electrophysiology for more than four decades at Watson Clinic in Lakeland, FL. His passion for medical science combined with his inherent intellectual curiosity pushed him far beyond the routines of medical practice. He played a significant role in advancing the management of heart attacks through innovative angioplasty techniques, improving patient care both locally and internationally. Kevin was instrumental in starting the Watson Clinic Center for Research and served as its director for years. He also founded a recycling company for single-use medical devices and co-founded the Good Samaritan Talbot House Medical Clinic, which continues to provide free medical care to homeless patients.

Kevin loved to travel to see the beauty and wonder of the world. He traveled to all 50 states and numerous countries. He earned the nickname “concierge” for extensively organizing fun-filled adventures. Sailing, golfing, snow skiing, and camping were among his favorite activities, but being with his family filled him with the most joy. “Tickle monster” was always one of his favorite games to play with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maureen McHenry Browne, his daughter, Shannon Kao (Peter) of Pasadena, CA, sons, Kevin Robert Browne (Viviane Assaad) of Montreal, Canada, and Brendan Browne (Elizabeth Saari) of Atlanta, GA and his grandsons, Liam Kao, Ethan Kao and Milo Browne. He is also survived by his sisters, Roseann McCarthy (Dennis) of Middletown, NJ and Noreen McGowan of Lakeland, FL, his father-in-law and best friend, Bob McHenry (Linda) of Lakeland, FL and numerous loving relatives. He was everyone’s “favorite uncle.” He is preceded in death by his parents, Kevin and Nora Browne Sr and brother, Thomas Browne.

He wanted people to remember that he cared about his family and friends, lived life to its fullest and tried hard to be a good father, loving husband and good doctor. He had compassion for those in need and touched countless lives.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Talbot House Ministers, 814 N. Kentucky Ave, Lakeland, FL 33801 (talbothouse.org) or a charity of your choice.
