Marilee B Truitt

Marilee Truitt was born in Paducah, Kentucky, on October 28, 1930, and died at Lakeland Hospice House on April 12, 2026.

She came to Lakeland in 1948 and graduated from Florida Southern College in 1952, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She taught school in Polk County for seven years. The family lived in Lakeland for thirteen years, then moved to Winter Park, Florida.

In 1969, they moved to Houston, Texas, where they lived for 12 years. In 1981, they returned to Lakeland.

She was a member of the Christian Church, the Polk Museum of Art, and the Heritage Antique Club. She was also a long-time supporter of Florida Southern College. She honored her husband by establishing the George W. Truitt Endowed Chair in Sciences at Florida Southern College.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, George W. Truitt Jr.; a son, George Patrick Truitt; and a granddaughter, Sarah Truitt Chase.

She is survived by her son, Frank Truitt and his wife Vicki of Ingleside, Texas, and two grandsons, Philip and Andrew Truitt, and a great-granddaughter, Anastasia Ward of Ingleside, Texas.

A private service will be held at a later date.
