LAKELAND - Marlene Heupel Pitts passed away on October 17, 2019. She was born in Venturia, North Dakota, on May 12, 1936, to Jacob and Albina Heupel. Marlene is preceded in death by her husband, Glendon D. Pitts, whom she met while he was stationed at Minot Air Force Base and she was a student at Minot State Teachers College. She is survived by her son, Robert G. Pitts, and a very large extended family who loved her beyond measure. Marlene was a teacher in Polk County for more than 30 years and after retirement was active in the Fidelis Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, the International Honorary Organization for Women Educators. She was also active in the Imperial Polk Genealogical Society. Our family is forever grateful to the oncology teams of Dr. Richard Cardosi and Dr. Sandra Sha at the Watson Clinic Cancer & Research Center, who gave us priceless extra time and many treasured moments with Marlene. Good Shepherd Hospice in Lakeland made Marlene's transition to Heaven peaceful for herself and her family. We look forward to seeing her again on Resurrection Day. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 S. Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801, with services following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Oak Hill Burial Park, 4620 US Hwy. 98 South, Lakeland, FL 33812.
