Matthew John Lunz

In Loving Memory of Matthew John Lunz, 49, of Lakeland, Florida, who passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on October 25, 2025. Born on August 12, 1976, in Bartow, Matthew’s legacy is all the lives he touched. He brought light and humor into everything and everyone. His life was marked by curiosity and imagination. He had a deep appreciation for beauty in all its forms - qualities that shaped his life.

Those who knew Matthew will remember him for his warmth, humor, and quiet intelligence. He had a sharp wit with the uncanny ability to make others laugh, even in difficult moments. He approached life with both passion and practicality. His heart was kind, and he loved people deeply.

Matthew was an accomplished graphic designer. His creative path took him from Florida to Shanghai, where he worked on international design as well as volunteer projects, a reflection of his talent, adventurous spirit, and compassion. He used his artistic skill and entrepreneurial drive to help others bring their ideas to life. His work earned numerous Addy Awards, recognizing his creativity and excellence in design.

Outside of work, Matthew loved fishing, being outdoors, and fixing things. He was the one people called when something needed attention, and he always found a way to make it work. A lifelong fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning, he enjoyed the camaraderie of cheering for his hometown teams and never missed an opportunity to share in their victories (or commiserate over their losses).

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents Alfred and Fortunetta Lunz and Theodore and Wanda Jaworski. He is survived by his loving parents, Edward and Gloria Lunz of Lakeland; his brothers Bradley, Jeffrey, and Stephen Lunz; and his beloved niece, Avery Lunz, who brought him endless pride and joy. He will also be remembered by his extended family and countless friends and colleagues who were inspired by his loyalty and generosity of spirit.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a service at noon and a celebration of life at Heath Funeral Chapel in Lakeland, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts may be made to Flagler College, where Matthew graduated with a degree in Graphic Design in 2002. Please include "Matthew Lunz Memorial Gift" in the memo line.

Though his time with us was far too short, Matthew’s influence will live on through the art he created the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he touched. His creativity and compassion left an imprint that will not fade, a reminder that beauty, humor, and kindness are lasting gifts.
