Peggy Welch Jarrell Beck

Mrs. Peggy Welch Jarrell Beck passed away peacefully in her home in Lakeland, Florida on Saturday, November 16, 2024. She was 85 years old. 

She was born in Wadesboro, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Henry Benton and Janice Marie Welch.

Peggy graduated from Wadesboro High School and attended Wingate College. She was part of the Junior Women’s Club, Wingate, N.C. and named Outstanding Young Woman. She was very involved in the Asheville Symphony and Imperial Orchestra. Later in life Peggy was Treasurer and President of All Thumbs Craft Group, chairman of the Social Committee for the Stonewater Condominium Association, active tennis player with Polk County Tennis for 20+ years and she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lakeland since 1976. Peggy had a servant’s heart and a desire to help others. Her love for others was felt by many and she will be missed. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. 

Peggy is preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Thomas Jarrell of 14 years and James Lee Beck of 36 years; half-sister, Myrtle Beachum; and her parents.

"She leaves behind her cherished family, including her son Wesley and daughter-in-law Maya Beck of Lakeland, her daughter Lisa and son-in-law Todd Clark also of Lakeland. Additionally, she is survived by her stepdaughter Kathy Smith of Charlotte and stepson Rick Beck (Robbie) of Missouri. Her beloved grandchildren include Landon (Victoria) of Lakeland, Taylor Beck of Lakeland, Shelley Bartlett (Jeff) of Roanoke, Virginia, Stuart (Andrea) Smith of Mint Hill, North Carolina, and Allisha and Shawn Beck of Missouri. Her loving siblings, sister Kay Perry and brothers Ted and Henry Welch of Wadesboro, North Carolina, also survive her." She was a proud great-grandmother to eight.

Peggy will be remembered as a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. We cannot forget her infectious smile or her sweet demeanor. It was with her kindness that she always supported her family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at the Lakeland Yacht Club on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 4-6 pm. 

Another celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, Polkton, NC for family and friends who cannot travel to Florida. This will be held from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm.
