Robert "Sonny" E Maxwell

Robert E. "Sonny" Maxwell, age 87, of Lakeland, Fl., passed away on Monday, Jan. 9th, 2023 at home with loving family by his side.

Robert was born May 26, 1935 in Star Lake, N.Y. to the late David and Edith(Trombley) Maxwell. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy at the age of 17 and was honorably discharged.

Robert married Rose Marie Martin , August 25, 1956 in Star Lake, N. Y. at St. Hubert's Catholic Church. After his discharge from the Navy, Robert drove truck with his father in the family owned business. Robert ran a Shell gas station, then built an automotive parts store in which he did business until his retirement in 1975. Upon his retirement, Robert moved his family to Lakeland, Fl. Robert with his father purchased land in Frostproof, Fl. and planted a small orange grove, which he tended to for several years. Growing up in the Adirondack Mts. , Robert liked to fish and hunt with family and friends. After moving to Florida, Robert and Rose enjoyed fishing and boating and spent a lot of time in the Keys.

Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years Rose Marie, 3 children, Karen (Patrick)Woodhouse, of Soap Lake , WA. , Roger (Jackie) Maxwell of Catawba, N C. and Jon ( Lisa) Maxwell of Mulberry, Fl. .... 12 grandchildren, 13 great grand children, 3 great , great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Ruth Lawrence, Judy Cote, Pat Towne and a brother David Maxwell.

Robert is predeceased by a son, Timothy Maxwell, infant son, Steven Paul, and brother Fred Maxwell.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the Disabled Veterans or Hospice of your choice
