Teresa A. Morrell

Mrs. Teresa A. Morrell passed away, at the age of 99, on Friday, March 17,2023, surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her husband, Roberto Morrell and her son Eduardo (Ed) Morrell (wife Shannon). She is survived by her children, Robert A. Morrell (wife Tina), Teresa Morrell, Celia Nolin, Gonzalo Morrell, Maria Martinez, Ignacio Morrell (wife Kim), Jorge Morrell (wife Karen), 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Teresa was also preceded in death by her father, Pedro Antonio Alvarez, her mother, Maria Teresa Alvarez, and her brother, Pedro Antonio (Tony) Alvarez, and is survived by her siblings Rosy Hernandez, Conchita Piedra, and Gonzalo Alvarez (wife Corina).

Teresa was born on February 20th, 1924, in Cienfuegos, Cuba. She met and married her husband Roberto Morrell in Havana, Cuba, to whom she was married over 72 years before his passing in 2020 at 96. She and her husband migrated to the United States in October of 1960 with her first six children. They settled in Lakeland, Florida in 1961, where she had her two youngest children - Ed and Jorge.

Teresa was a mother, a housewife, and a teacher. She earned a degree in Philosophy from the University of Havana. Along with raising her family, she was an elementary and high school teacher in Cuba and was a Spanish tutor in Lakeland for several years.

Both she and her husband Roberto were founding members of St. John Neuman’s Catholic Church, where she had served as a lector, a sacristan, and a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a volunteer at Bartow Regional Hospital and NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness.

A funeral service is scheduled on Friday, March 24th, at 10:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Lakeland, followed by a burial at Oak Hill Burial Park, with gravesite prayers and the final commendation into the hands of the Lord.
