Lakeland – Terry Allen Hunter passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Terry Hunter left this world to return to the arms of his Lord and Savior, after waging a longtime valiant fight against Parkinson’s Disease
He was born in Gainesville, Florida to William P. and Alice Mae Hunter. He grew up in Gainesville and Plant City, Florida, and graduated from Plant City High School. He served in the United States Army and is a Vietnam veteran.
He completed his Master’s Degree in Architecture at the University of Florida and maintained an office as an architect in Bartow, Florida before moving his practice to Lakeland in the last few years before his retirement.
He had a strong interest in historic preservation and served as president of Historic Lakeland, Inc. several years ago. He was a member of the Bartow Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow. He and his wife have been members of First United Methodist Church for almost 50 years, and he served in a number of ministries there, including the Chancel Choir and the Searches Class.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 54 years, Bettye, and his son Brantley; his two brothers, Mace (Jan) and Bill (Terry); his sister, Peggy Smith (Steve), as well as several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service at First United Methodist Church of Lakeland on Thursday, March 07, 2024, at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Music Department or the Christian Education Department of the First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, 33801.
